Hello and welcome to The Old-Time Radio Hour Blog. I'm your host Justeen Ward and this week we bring you a musical comedy detective. Dick Powell stars as Richard Diamond, Private Detective. The show ran from 1949 to 1952 with some re-runs in 1953. Dick Powell plays Richard Diamond and often there is a song at the end of the show. Blake Edwards, famous for directing Breakfast at Tiffany's and Victor/Victoria was a writer on the show who later became a producer on Richard Diamond Private Detective. The episode you are about to hear involves a seance and be sure to listen all the way to the end when Dick Powell sings Don't Blame Me. Enjoy Richard Diamond, Private Detective "The Van Dyke Seance Case" first broadcast September 10, 1949 on NBC. The Old-Time Radio Hour is broadcast each week over the World Wide Web with subscriptions available for free through iTunes. The next episode we present is a bit of an inside joke. The mysterious guest star is Dick Powell's wife June Allyson. Audiences at the time would have recognized her distinctive voice so I'm filling you in on the joke. Twists and turns of the plot will be easy to follow. Enjoy Richard Diamond, Private Detective "Mrs X Can't Find Her Husband" first broadcast June 14, 1950 on NBC. That was a fun way to announce to the public that Dick Powell and his wife June Allyson had a baby on the way. Richard Powell Jr would be born in December of 1950. June Allyson had to give up a role opposite Fred Astaire in Royal Wedding because of her pregnancy. Thank you so much for joining us this week on The Old-Time Radio Hour. Each week we bring the golden age of radio to our listeners and we appreciate your attention. Next week we will find you a different type of detective, someone a bit more hard boiled.
