Hello and welcome to The Old-Time Radio Hour Blog. I'm your host Justeen Ward and each week we bring you a classic show from Radio's Golden Age. We hope that Thanksgiving brings you lots to be thankful for this year. This week we have two comedy shows with a Thanksgiving theme because we can all use a laugh. We have the sitcom Life of Riley and then we'll have the irreverent wordplay of Abbott and Costello plus a five minute bonus track of Fanny Brice as Baby Snooks. In Life of Riley William Bendix plays the blundering dad with aplomb and we can use his catchphrase that was popular all over the country during WWII, "What a revoltin' development this is". Enjoy The Life of Riley "Turkey Hunt" first broadcast November 19, 1944 on ABC. Next we have the rollicking over the top humor in questionable taste that made Abbott and Costello famous. They do a pun studded send up of the Pilgrims in this Thanksgiving themed show as well as a football crosstalk routine that echoes their famous "who's on first". Enjoy The Abbott and Costello Show first broadcast November 25, 1948 on ABC. There's a bonus track: Part of a Thanksgiving comedy routine by Fanny Brice as Baby Snooks on Maxwell House Good News first broadcast November 21, 1940 on NBC. Hello and welcome to The Old-Time Radio Hour Blog. I'm your host Justeen Ward and each week we bring you a classic show from Radio's Golden Age. I hope each and every listener finds a lot to be thankful for during the Thanksgiving holiday. Classic radio and the holiday of Thanksgiving both are part of American culture so let's celebrate Thanksgiving with Jimmy Durante, Gary Moore and Red Skelton this week. First we have the Jimmy Durante Show with Gary Moore. They celebrate Thanksgiving with a comic opera with the cast as pilgrims. Enjoy The Jimmy Durante Show with Gary Moore "Thanksgiving Opera" first broadcast November 22, 1946 on CBS. Next we have more hilarity with a Thanksgiving show by Red Skelton on his Raleigh cigarette sponsored program. With Harriet Hilliard as the mean widdle kid's mom trying to make him behave on Thanksgiving you have a really comic situation. Enjoy The Red Skelton Show first broadcast November 18, 1941 on NBC. Hello and welcome to The Old-Time Radio Hour Blog. I'm your host Justeen Ward and each week we bring you a classic show from Radio's Golden Age. This week we have an original radio play by Ford Theater. Ford sponsored a high quality one hour show to give the best of theater and literature to mainstream America. In Father, Dear Father they presented an original with a play written by producer Therese Lewis and Irving Pinkus. Ms Lewis went on to be producer of the soap opera "As the World Turns". In this story, a runaway husband returns after 20 years abroad and interferes with his daughter's career as an "influencer" and her plans to marry into high society. Does that sound like the Megan Markle story? Enjoy The Ford Theater "Father, Dear Father" first broadcast December 28, 1947 on NBC.
