Hello and welcome to The Old-Time Radio Hour Blog. I'm your host Justeen Ward and I hope you are enjoying our series, The Best of Lux Radio Theater. For the first few weeks of this year we will bring you some highlights of the Lux Radio Theater with radio versions of popular movies. This week we have "Peg o' My Heart" starring Marion Davies. She was an actress who was renowned for her philanthropy which her association with William Randolph Hearst made possible. Just this month the city of Santa Monica had a gala celebration of her life and contributions. It took place at the Annenberg Beach House, which is a public beach facility built on the site of a 110 room mansion owned by Hearst where Marion Davies once lived. Her 121st birthday would have been this month. Marion Davies plays the lead in this charming reprise of her role in the original movie Peg o' My Heart. She retired from acting shortly after this Lux radio appearance to pursue charity work collecting and distributing funds for various causes. Enjoy Lux Radio Theater Peg o' My Heart first broadcast November 29, 1937 on CBS. The Old-Time Radio Hour broadcasts the program each week over the World Wide Web via iTunes and RSS.
